Wyckoff Heights Medical Center is a 350-bed teaching hospital situated within a residential neighborhood in northern Brooklyn, a borough of New York City. Since 1889, the center has provided medical care to the community. Today, a dedicated staff including 1,800 physicians, nurses, and support staff cares for patients from many diverse backgrounds and cultures. Partnering with New York Medical College, Wyckoff Heights Medical Center is committed to training new generations of physicians.

At this healthcare facility, the Pediatric and Adult Emergency Departments annually receive 90,500 visits; 1,400 babies are delivered; and outpatient services are provided through the ambulatory care center network.

Thomas Pallaria, DNP, APN, CRNA – Advanced Practice Anesthesia Director for NAPA’s New Jersey and New York Regions

Thomas Pallaria, DNP, APN, CRNA, earned his clinical doctorate degree at Rutgers University after earning a master’s degree in anesthesia at Columbia University. A co-founder of the Rutgers Nurse Anesthesia Program in 2004, he now serves as the program’s director and assistant professor. Before joining NAPA, he was the Market Director-Advanced Practice for the Northeast region of American Anesthesiology.

Advanced Practice Anesthesia (APA) leaders are unique to NAPA. As an integral part of our regional infrastructure, APA directors are Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists who foster stability and collaboration among local facilities and teams throughout our organization. In his role, Dr. Pallaria supports the New Jersey and New York regions as a voice for local clinicians, along with being a leader who hears, understands, and values those on our clinical team.

  • Pre-anesthesia assessment
  • Obtains and/or verifies patient consent
  • Discuss anesthetic options and risks with the patient
  • Induction, maintenance, and emergence from anesthesia
  • Monitoring of the patient’s physiological condition
  • Performance of clinical intervention as needed

Requirements

  • Current license as a registered professional nurse
  • Graduation from an accredited program of nurse anesthesia education
  • Certified or recertified by the AANA Council on Certification of Nurse Anesthetists
